Seidatu Wahab was named Player of the Match after helping Ghana defeat Canada 2-0 at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and secure a place in the Round of 16.
The midfielder produced an influential display at the heart of the Black Maidens team, disrupting Canadas attacks, competing strongly in midfield duels and maintaining Ghanas rhythm with her composure in possession.
Although substitute Linda Achiaa and fellow replacement Christiana Ashiaku scored the goals that decided the match, Wahabs contribution provided the platform for Ghana to control the contest and claim the victory they needed.
Playing alongside Jessica Appiah in central midfield, Wahab protected the defence effectively and restricted Canadas room to build from midfield. Her positioning also enabled Ghana to move forward with greater purpose whenever they regained possession.
One of her most important interventions came during the first half, when she made a precisely timed last-ditch tackle to prevent Canada from creating a clear goalscoring opportunity.
Wahab was also involved in the build-up to Ghanas opening goal, underlining her influence at both ends of the pitch as the Black Maidens established control of the game.
The award continues a notable tournament for the midfielder, whose performances have improved throughout Ghanas campaign. She also featured in the defeat by Norway and the 3-3 draw with Brazil before producing another decisive display against Canada.
Ghanas progress to the knockout stage means Wahab will remain an important part of Coach Nana Joe Adarkwas plans when the Black Maidens return for their Round of 16 tie.
